The evenings of August 3rd and 5th were absolutely perfect for the Hardwick Area Community Coalition’s and Hardwick Recreation’s co-sponsored whiffle ball tournament held at the Hardwick Elementary fields. On August 3rd Camille Brochu started the event by winning the girls home run derby by driving five out of seven over the fence. This was followed by a four inning co-ed game with a final score that resembled more of a football final than baseball. The events of August 5th began with Dante McPherson outdueling Corey Pollard in the finals of the 10 year old division of the boys home run derby. This was followed by Walden Gann winning the 11-13 year old home run derby. Walden hit and amazing 8 home runs in a row to squeak by Jaxson Hussey by just one in the finals. Again the game that followed was highly competitive with plenty of laughs throughout the four inning battle. The game had an exciting ending as Russell Shopland caught a deep fly ball with the tying runs on base to end the game.
